Students Visit Jump Trampoline Park:

Students Visit Jump Trampoline Park:
As a way of showing our appreciation to the many students who provide a service to the school, we travelled to Jump Trampoline Park for two hours for non stop jumping fun.  Students enjoyed many of the trampolines, dodgeball arenas, jousting logs, parkour obstacles, free fall pits, confidence poles and so much more.

Kiwisport Netball Mania:

Kiwisport Netball Mania:
Term 3, Thursday 31st August, Green Bay School had 2 teams attend the first Kiwisport Netball Mania Tournament.  Both teams were inexperienced and came up against teams that had been playing in the Winter Season and for a few years.

Green Bay Mystics, played so well as a team and really came together as the day progressed.  They drew in the finals to come 7th equal.  Players for the tournament for this team was Naomi Starke and Logan Main.  They were outstanding  and fought hard in every game.

The second team, Green Bay Magic, played well as a team and really complimented each other in their game sense.  They played 5 games in total and only lost one game in the semi finals.  Players of the tournament would have to be Mary Ofa and Nevaeh Tevi.  Both players defended and attacked extremely well in every game and never gave up.

We would like to say thank you to our parent supporters who came out to watch and cheer our teams on.  It means a lot to the students and they appreciated it.  We would also like to say thank you to Anton our Kiwisport Activator for helping to organise the Tournament, Green Bay High School for their teachers and students who ran the day and umpired all the games and finally thank you to the other schools for turning up and giving us teams to compete against.

Disco:

Disco:

On the 22nd of June, term 2, Green Bay School had a disco. The disco was SOOO much fun! There were snacks, drinks, colour hairspray, toys, cool disco lights and funky music. At the disco, me and my friends, and everyone else, really got their groove on! The theme of the disco was WINTER WONDERLAND!!!!!!!!! Everyone had to dress up all wintery.  I am very sure that EVERYONE enjoyed the school disco!  By Jocelyn

Lino Prints:

Lino Prints:

In term 2, for art, Room 2 did lino prints. It was so fun! At first,  Maria gave us pictures to sketch in our art books.  Then we sketched the picture out on a piece of lino. Next, we etched them out with a chisel. After that, we would take coloured ink and roll it out on the sketch. Finally, we would print it out on a piece of paper. When we took the lino off, the paper the picture was there. It looked so cool!  By Jocelyn

Speech Finalists:

This term we wrote persuasive speeches.  Our class winners were Logan, Tia and Regan.  They went through to the whanau finals.  Tia Edwards Rm 2 and Sophie Sims Rm 29  were the whanau overall winners.  They had to present their speeches in front of the whole school.  Sophie will now go to the West Auckland Primary School Zones.   By Sophia

New Zealand Sign Language Taster Lesson:

New Zealand Sign Language Taster Lesson:

In Term 2, Room 2 were lucky enough to have Rachael from the New Zealand Deaf Association come into our class.  We learnt how to sign our name, the alphabet, animals and how to introduce ourselves.  It was very challenging for us because we had to only use sign language because Rachael was completely deaf.  One thing that she told us that was very sad, was that when she was 12 years old, students in her class would tease her when she would try to talk.  Her speech was funny and different to people who can hear.  It made us think about how we are all different and we should accept every ones differences, not make fun of them.

Invention Convention:

Invention Convention:

On Wednesday the 5th of July Rimu Whanau had their invention convention presentation. We went to other classes to see their inventions. There were games, water dispensers, food, DIY fidget spinners, time machines, catapults, pet things and other amazing things too.  It was a great way for us to share our learning and see what others were doing in their classes.  By Sophia

The Dinosaur Silly Poem - Book Week Activity
Once there was a dinosaur! He lived on a mountain and ate smores. He would laugh and cry and eat delicious pies.  Until one day he tried to fly, because he thought he was a dragonfly.  But actually, he was as fat as an elephant pie!  He was determined to fly, so he went to a cliff and fell off the side.  YEAH!!!

T BALL TOURNAMENT 2017

T Ball Tournament 2017
On Wednesday 22nd March, Maria, Daphne and Catriona took 3 teams to the Avon Bay t-Ball Tournament.  All teams were fantastic at batting, fielding, supporting each other and teamwork.  So many student hit home runs, caught batters out, and ran the bases well.

Throughout the day each team improved out of sight and each team tried their best.  The spirit of all the Green Bay students was very high.  We had a fantastic day, all made possible by our wonderful parent helpers.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
Over the past three weeks, twice a week,  Whanau Rimu have been participating in organised turbo touch and soccer skills sessions at Green Bay High School.  The Year 12 students planned for, organised and taught skills and drills to our students.  Our class enjoyed every session and learned so much.  We were very grateful to have this opportunity and the older students were full of knowledge, energy and enthusiasm.

LOST AT SEA

LOST AT SEA - CATHERINE WHEELS THEATRE COMPANY - SCOTLAND

Today, Room 2 had the opportunity to attend a theatre show for free!  The show normally would cost $10.00, but due to another school pulling out and being unable to attend the intermediates and Year 6’s were offered to watch this show for free!  It was a fantastic and eye opening show and the students learnt and realised so much.  Below is in depth information about the show.

The intention of the arts is not always to communicate or educate, or even to reach people’s hearts rather than their minds but to inspire enquiry through discovery.

There’s no more evocative and terrifying image of climate change and the selfish wastefulness of humanity than that of the Great Pacific garbage patch, a swirling vortex of plastic and rubbish swirling around a great gyre somewhere in the region of Hawaii.

In this piece playwright Morna Pearson and director Gill Robertson partly reclaim this image as just one facet of the power of nature and possibility.

Performing on a large map of planet Earth, Ashley Smith and Laurie Brown are a teenage girl and boy on opposite sides of the world. They’re united by 28,000 rubber ducks which were lost at sea, when a shipping container was washed off the deck of a ship sailing out of Hong Kong in 1992.

The boy’s life is marked by migration and movement, from the Highlands of Scotland to Australia (where his mother died and her ashes were cast into Byron Bay), before moving to Alaska and finally Hawaii. In Hawaii he finds 98 of the ducks washed ashore, earning unwanted media fame as ‘Duck Boy’.

On the Isle of Harris, meanwhile, the girl yearns to find just one of the ducks on her local beach, researching currents and paths of travel between oceans to determine whether this is even remotely possible.

Lost at Sea very entertaining and offered insight to the world of oceanography through an awfully big adventure.

During the lunch break each school nominated a boy and a girl to compete in a throwing and catching competition.  Regan from Rm 2 won the throwing competition and Madi from Rm 31 won the catching competition - great skills shown from both students!

TERRIFIC 2 BRAVE THE WAVES AT PIHA!

On Thursday 16th February, Room 2 and 29 travelled to Piha to learn about Surf Safety.  We had so much fun and learnt a lot about how to stay safe in and around water when at beaches.  We even got into the water with our parents as a human safety net.  We were so lucky to have all our wonderful parents come out and brave the thrashing cold waves.

TERM 1 FAMILY NIGHT - PARENT MEET AND GREET

On Tuesday 28th February, Green Bay School held their annual 'Teacher Meet and Greet'.  What a fantastic turnout with so many parents and families from all levels of the school.

We were very lucky to have Mr Southgate's Merengue Band performing with the help of our talented students.

We look forward to catching up with our families at our goal setting meetings.

Mr Southgate rocking it out!

ROOM 2'S 2017 CLASS TREATY

In class we discussed what would make a safe, fun, learning environment.  With all the positive, motivating and encouraging words we came up with our Treaty.  Our treaty is in the shape of a 'Rooster' because this year is the year of the Rooster.
